The municipal garden circle
The historical centre of Pilsen is surrounded on three sides by a belt of orchards, which have been established gradually since the begginnings of the 19th century in the locations of the demolished town fortifications and the filled-in moat. Statues and memorials in remembrance of important persons of the town-burgrave Martin Kopecký, revivalist Josef František Smetana, musical composer Bedřich Smetana and the inventor František Křižík- are located in an environment of majestic trees and interesting park designs in the Smetana, Kopecký and Křižík orchards. In the Šafařík orchards you can find a sculptural group representing the well-known puppets Spejbl and Hurvínek. In the Křižík orchard you will also find an extensive fresco called the "Theatrum Mundi", dating from 2001, depicting important persons of Pilsen.
